[00:00:01.050] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
Hello. Hello. Thanks for joining me again. Today, I want to talk about the power of your words. This is something that is near and dear to my heart. I think so many people don’t realize how powerful their words are that they speak. And I want to talk about it. OK. So I want to tell you about the summer of 2017. So in May of 2017, my husband and I, we were out on a drive and just kind of talking about life and everything and general business and where we were going.
[00:00:36.180] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And I joked to him that how cool would it be to be able to take the whole summer off? Spend time with the kids, not have to really, you know, do much work, that it’s just like little things my clients need me for. And I wouldn’t have to take on any new clients.
[00:00:55.830] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And I just really like, we fantasized about that for maybe about a few minutes, let’s call it five minutes, where we talked about how cool it would be and really like affirmed like how great that would be, to be able to spend the whole summer at the pool with the kids grilling, hanging out, you know, having fun. And then I let it go. I didn’t think about it. Didn’t say anything. Like, that would be cool. Maybe one day.
[00:01:21.010] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
Right. So this is May 2017. So my kids finish school in June and they came home and everything was good. And the first week they were home, we received no new submissions on the website. My clients were pretty much like nonexistent at this moment. My email wasn’t blowing up like usual. The phone wasn’t going crazy. So it’s like, huh. All right. Interesting. Right? So we spent the week at the pool.
[00:01:52.890] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
I was kind of like getting in and out constantly just to check my phone, just to make sure I didn’t miss anything because I felt like pretty much like a slacker. I was like, this is not how I usually do business.
[00:02:03.990] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
So it was just it was weird for me to take the time off, to just accept it that it was, you know, it was time off because I was still in work mode. By the end of June, we hadn’t seen any new submissions. My e-mail still was not blowing up. The phone was not going crazy. And just to give you comparison, that is not normal. Usually my weeks are, you know, I only work about four, maybe five hours a day, and that’s Monday through Friday. And Fridays in the summer
[00:02:37.200] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
I usually do take off. But it was kind of like, nothing, like crickets for a while. And I started to get worried. So I’m like, hey, you know, did we do something different or did we do something wrong that nothing’s happening now? Like, what’s going on? So now we’re into July. July of 2017, the same thing happened and I was getting really worried. So instead of spending time in the pool in July, I’m thinking about ways to amp things up on my end.
[00:03:10.990] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And I’m going to tell you right now, this is what most entrepreneurs do. Instead of taking the chill out method and just like let things happen, we go into this whole mindset of, it’s not working. I got to figure something out. And I know better. And I still went into this whole like, oh, my gosh, what are we going to do? I got to figure something out. Something’s not right here. So that was pretty much my July was spent worrying that I had done something wrong.
[00:03:44.180] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And just kind of feeling that like panic in my gut. Right. Then August came and it wasn’t until the last week of August that I finally said, you know what? Whatever. This is gonna be what it’s gonna be. I’ll figure it out once the kids go back to school. And my husband was out one day and he called me and he’s just like, Rachel, remember that conversation we had in May where we kind of played around with the idea of taking the whole summer off and not having really a lot of work.
[00:04:18.800] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And we were good to go and hang out at the pool. And it came rushing back. I’m like, oh, my goodness. I created this. I went into this little fantasy for just a few minutes. And so I just, I laughed. It was because it says you have to laugh at yourself when you realize, like we call it, connecting the dots. When you realize like something you did or something you said or something that you wanted and you could see how it came about.
[00:04:49.460] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
So now this is the last week of August. My kids are going back to school. So my kids go back to school in August. My youngest at the time was in preschool, so she didn’t go back until after Labor Day. So I had her for the first week of September and I completely chilled out. We hung out by the pool. We laughed. We danced. We just, like, we took walks out into, you know, we have like greenways out here where we can walk.
[00:05:16.820] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
We took walks into the stores that we have near us. We went out for lunch. We, I mean, we really just had a good, good, good time. And the day she went back to school, I literally dropped her off, came back to my house because I was working from home at the time. And it was just like, that everything went back to normal. All of a sudden, I was blown up by current clients. I had new submissions on the site from people that were looking for.
[00:05:54.160] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And it just, it made me realize how powerful the words that you speak are. And I don’t want you to get worried. I don’t want you to start saying, like, oh, my gosh, now I have to watch what you say. Yes and no. OK. So my words came with a power behind them. There was this feeling of like, wow, how cool would that be? And I thought about it and I imagined it.
[00:06:18.580] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And I, you know, we went into this good side fantasy world, you know, where it’s like that would be kind of awesome. So for us now, we take the summers off every summer. Like, I take summer off. I will work a little bit like usual, but I just won’t go into, I won’t take on new clients. I won’t. And literally, that’s our die downtime. Everything seems to just die out when June hits. And then September, it comes back up.
[00:06:47.860] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
So I’m able to spend time with my kids as much as I want. I’m able to do the things that I want to do. And it’s all because your words are so powerful. If you can get behind what you say and really start believing it. I mean, I’ve talked a lot about believing that your life can be different, believing that you can have whatever you want, you can have a successful business. You can have a great life. If you can really get behind that and believe it and spend some time every day just crafting your words for what you want,
[00:07:29.320] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
you will start to see the difference in your life. Your words are super, super powerful. This is why affirmations, if you don’t know what affirmation is, it’s a positive statement that you say about yourself, about your circumstance. They are so powerful and I don’t use them all the time. It’s not my go-to technique, let’s call that. But I do use them a lot when I say things like, this will work. I know for a fact this is going to work.
[00:08:00.850] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
I know I’m strong. I am strong. And they usually start with an I am statement because anything behind I am is probably the strongest words you can say. So you have to think to yourself. If you’re constantly saying I am lazy, I’m a deadbeat, I’m lazy, I’m broke, I’m overweight, I’m whatever you’re saying all the time, you really have to watch out for those because as soon as you start saying I am, it’s like, boom, here you go, this is what you are then. I’m just affirming it over.
[00:08:36.530] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And sometimes we say it without even thinking about it because it’s so ingrained in the way we talk, in the way we think. Choose a few I am statements and they can radically change your life. So if you want to be on time more often, I am always on time. I am always on time as you’re getting ready. I’m always on time when you, you know, I have to be to work at, you know, I have to be there at nine o’clock.
[00:09:03.770] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
I am always on time. Start affirming that to yourself. You know, I am fit and healthy. Start affirming that to yourself. I am. Yeah. I used to say it all the time. I’m a procrastinator. I am a perfectionist. And I would affirm it over and over again. I mean, I would almost use it as an excuse as to why I do things a certain way. So if I would wait till last minute to do something that’s yeah, that’s just, because I’m a brand. I’m a procrastinator. That’s just what I do.
[00:09:32.140] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And it’s almost like you’re accepting this as who you are. And I’ve changed that a lot. I mean, my perfectionist qualities, I won’t say they’re gone one hundred percent, but I am, I would say, 90 percent better about putting stuff out there without it having to be perfect. And this is something that I had to work on. I had to constantly say, like, everything I do is good enough. Everything I put out there is good enough for now and I am always improving.
[00:10:00.220] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
I am always open to improving and I am always improving. And that took away that tendency for me to be like, this is not ready yet. This, I can’t put this out there yet because it’s not ready. And I see it all the time in the world of business, in the, in just people’s lives. I can talk to you for five minutes and instantly see why you’re stuck in a certain area of your life because of the way you speak.
[00:10:27.750] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
You know, if you’re speaking and it’s not even saying unkind things about yourself or unkind. It’s just I don’t think people even realize how they’re coming across when they’re talking. But they’re saying things like, you know, I don’t know, it’s just not going to work for me. You know, maybe good for you, but it’s not good for me. I just never have enough money. Money comes in and just goes back out. I don’t think this business will ever make it.
[00:10:54.840] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
You know, it’s just so hard for me. I mean, these are all things that you’re saying to yourself and you’re creating these beliefs. And these beliefs are so not true. But it’s just, as soon as you keep saying it over and repetition, it’s a habit now. You say it. You say it. You say it. You say it. The more you say it, the more you believe it.
[00:11:12.480] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And here’s the kicker. Once you start saying things and believing them, you start to see evidence that that is the case. So in my last podcast, I talked about how you, having a little bit of faith can help you, you know, move forward in your business. And believing that you can do this helps you move forward in your business. And you’ll start to see evidence once you start believing that. And the opposite is true. So once you start believing this is going to be hard for me, all of a sudden your computer crashes.
[00:11:49.110] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
You’re, the software that you need to actually make this your business go live, it just completely, it’s hard for you to understand. And then all of a sudden, you have a flat tire and they’re totally unrelated. You have a flat tire. So now you have to spend that extra, you know, two, three hundred dollars just to get this thing fixed. Now, you don’t have money to invest in yourself. I mean, it becomes like a spiral.
[00:12:10.750] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
So would you rather spiral into the negative way or would you rather spiral into uplifting and moving yourself forward? So really, the choice is yours, because whatever you’re choosing is a decision that you’re making. And when you make that decision, that’s the route that you’re going to see your evidence in. Because I encourage you for the next few days and you don’t have to, make this fun if you can. Kind of like, I’m all about games and making things fun so that it doesn’t feel like a chore.
[00:12:43.650] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
So just, when you pick up on something that you’re saying and you don’t have to over-analyze or end it just honestly lighthearted, you know, light touch, it’s just, just kind of listen to how you talk to yourself, how you talk to other people. Listen to your group of friends. This will give you the most insight, because if the people around you are talking a certain way, you’re attracted to them. These are your friends. So they are almost like an inside, inside you version.
[00:13:17.610] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
You can look at them and literally realize what you’re about because your friends are the same as you. This is a great way for you to see where you can make some improvements. So if you’re hanging out with people that are constantly, you know, negative Nancy’s or naysayers and it’s just like, no, I know, this is so hard. I can’t do this. I don’t know why this always happens to me. I mean, it’s just exhausting.
[00:13:40.780] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
Like, I’m I’m saying now and, I just, like, I can’t even. It’s exhausting. So surround yourself with people that are positive. Start speaking words that are in line with the life you want to live. So, I mean, this goes back to even scripting. Scripting is writing down the words as if your life is already the way you want it. And then, like I said, I want you to do this with a light touch.
[00:14:10.630] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
Nothing crazy. But just monitor how you’re talking, who you’re hanging out with, what they’re saying. See the patterns in your life. And then when it comes up, just say, huh? Why do I say that? Why do I think that’s the truth? You know, look at the evidence that’s around you and then you can challenge. You can really challenge your thoughts. You can challenge why you believe things the way they are. You can challenge these stories that you’re telling yourself.
[00:14:38.410] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
These, these mental images that you have because we all do it. You know, you go down this whole worst case scenario road. It’s like instead of thinking to yourself, what if all this amazing thing happened because I took this leap of faith and said, it’s like, oh, my gosh, if I take this leap of faith, I might lose my car. I might lose my house. People won’t like me anymore. I’m not going to have the same friends. You go through these stories in your mind.
[00:15:08.800] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And these are the power of words, the power of visuals, the power of thinking, of believing.
[00:15:16.620] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And I am here to tell you today. Begin challenging, challenging some of your beliefs on why you think things are a certain way. Why you say things a certain way. And honestly, if you can start thinking that way. And I’m trying to think of a game that, I think it would be like, the what if game where if you have a scenario that presents itself where you have an opportunity to do something, and instead of thinking about all the ways it can go wrong or saying all the things that can go wrong, instead, I would, you know, explore the version of what if. What if this all went amazingly well?
[00:16:00.970] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
What if I was able to really take off? Like, what would that look like? What if my business catapulted this year? What if I met my soulmate this year? What if I had the best time hanging out with my kids, even though right now they may be, you know, hard to deal with. But what if, what if things changed? What if I had a better relationship with my parents or with my children? Well, I mean, there’s so many what ifs for whatever you’re going through right now.
[00:16:29.920] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
Think of the what if and the best scenario possible. What if this worked exactly the way you wanted it to, you know, and then start affirming that. My ultimate favorite is, this is going to work, especially when it comes to your business. Launching something new. Seeing yourself in a positive light. Like this is going to work. This is going to work for me. I know it. I believe it. I see it. So.
[00:16:58.580] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
I would stress that. Like, start challenging some of those beliefs. Start challenging some of the words that you’re saying to yourself, and then from there, start playing the what if game. What if this worked out so well that I became a success? You know, what if I was able to buy my dream home in the next year? What if I could, you know, have X amount of dollars just land in my lap magically. I mean, these are all possible.
[00:17:27.310] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
The miracles happen every day. So these are all possibilities for me, for you, for everyone. So take them. You know, grasp at them, hold them, create, you know, whatever you want. We all want different things. So I encourage you to honestly, if you can do these little changes and I do these weekly, so every week I’m going to think of something new that I am dealing with myself. You know, I’m building a brand new business now.
[00:17:57.490] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And this is all coming up again. Or it’s like, oh, I’m starting from scratch and. I have moments sometimes where I’m like, what am I doing? I’m lost. Like, what do I do? And instead of going down a rabbit hole of like, oh, I can’t do this, there’s no way this is going to work. I keep referring to myself, this is going to work. You know, the right people are here. They’re listening to what I have to say.
[00:18:22.140] – Rachel W. (The Visualization Freak)
And I’m going to impact lives. I’m going to make a difference. That’s what God put in my heart. So I know it’s going to work. And so I encourage you to do the same. All right. That’s all I have for today. I hope you have a wonderful day and I will see you guys soon.
